Radinn batteries

The housing is made of two parts:

  • Shiny plastic top layer, onto which the rubber mat is glued
  • White plastic tub

The battery is secured into the board by three metal twisting thingies, and they seem to go through both the plastic top part and the tub. In the bottom, it is a 28mm socket that would attach.

  • There are no screws under the foam.
  • It is these three plugs plus glue that holds this together.
  • Taking off the screws around the charge connector does not help. It is also glued in.

Opening

I cut with an angle grinder carefully around the top of the white tub.

The battery is built INTO the white tub, and the black top lifts off.

Assembly

  • They use Chinese spacers, very familiar.
  • They also do manual inspection of welds, also very familiar!
  • It is not clear how the busbars are attached - they are welded on to the nickels?
  • They use 14AWG silicone wires to distribute the load. Smart spacing. I love it, nice job. (Of course really nice would be to screw to the busbar.. but that would require custom busbars!)

Failure analysis - S/N 01F2010004E3

  • Fuse OK
  • Cells are balanced  at 4.11/cell
  • If I bypass the contactor w/ the multimeter in current measuring, the charger will charge!
  • There is corrosion on the BMS!

Failure analysis - S/N 01F201000586

  • Fuse OK
  • Imbalance: B14 is 3.227V, while the rest is 4.14V
  • Water damage on BMS at multiple spots

Possible repairs

  • The housings are not reusable. Any repair means using and sealing a new housing.
  • BMS and relays and fuse are easy to swap
  • If the cells are bad, repairs is not going to be economical
